Zombies just got cooler

Reboot by Amy Tintera 4/5 stars

I recently read Ruined by Amy Tintera and adored it. When I saw she had a duology—I was all over that.

This is a review of the duology, no spoilers of either so don’t fear!

The Reboots are so freaking cool. They are like super-zombies. They come back to life faster, stronger, and less emotional. (I know they’re aren’t classified as zombies, but they come back from the dead so…pretty much a super-zombie).

Every time there was an action scene I pictured Black Widow in Iron Man 2 just destroying all those guards stoically—both bad a** and disconcerting which embodies Wren well.

“Do that thing where you look blank, like you have no feelings at all.”
“I think that’s just my face.”

“Try not to scream when I break your bones. It bothers me. You can cry if you want; that’s fine.”
He burst out laughing. I didn’t realize that was a funny statement.
“Got it,” he said, trying unsuccessful to cover his grin. “Screaming, no. Crying, yes”

At the beginning of the book, I didn’t really like Wren. I thought she was too robotic and dry in her narrative, then I realized she’s part ZOMBIE ASSASSIN WARRIOR. Once I came to that realization I liked her a lot more and appreciated Tintera’s creation and then the evolution of her as a character.

Even though Wren is dead the longest, the longer they are dead the stronger and less emotional they are, she still feels which was a very important message throughout the book and made her a more dynamic character. She’s still very practical and ruthless, but she evolves during the story.

I don’t know if I need to re-watch Sucker Punch, and all my connections I’ve had are a sign, but Wren is cute, blonde, but deadly. Baby Doll is totally her in my mind.

Sucker Punch

Surprise surprise I liked the “soft” male romantic character. I know it’s a trend with me and I am sorry for how much I talk about it, but someone needs to do it right? Callum is great. I love how he makes Wren just a regular girl with how he treats her. I also really enjoy the idea of a guy being more in touch with his feelings and less violent than the girl–defying those gender stereotypes. It made the book way more interesting to read since I didn’t know what to expect from Callum or Wren. And their friendship is wonderful and made me giddy! What are your thoughts on this
